Concrete grinding and coating removal

Industrial diamond grinding can remove suitable existing coatings, surface contamination and laitance and prepare concrete for subsequent floor finishes. The required preparation method and surface profile depend on the substrate and proposed specification.

Shot blasting for industrial floors

Mechanical shot blasting can provide consistent preparation across appropriate concrete areas ahead of resin coatings and industrial floor systems. We review access, edge details and the existing surface before agreeing a method.

Floor preparation for main contractors

We can discuss preparation-only packages for flooring contractors, facilities teams, refurbishment contractors and commercial site managers. Send the floor area, location, programme and required finish to help us scope the work.

From substrate to finished system

Where required, our wider services include screeding and levelling, epoxy DPM, epoxy resin flooring and MMA flooring. We operate across Liverpool, Chester, Manchester and the North West.

Common questions

Should concrete be ground before epoxy flooring?

Many resin systems require mechanical surface preparation. The appropriate method depends on the concrete condition and manufacturer’s system requirements.

What is the difference between shot blasting and diamond grinding?

Both are mechanical preparation methods. Shot blasting impacts the surface with abrasive media; diamond grinding abrades it using rotating tooling. The choice depends on substrate, access, coating and required surface profile.

Can you undertake surface preparation without installing the resin?

We can discuss preparation-only subcontract packages as well as full preparation-and-installation projects.

Do you provide floor levelling after grinding?

Where the specification calls for it, we can assess levelling and screeding options following appropriate preparation.

Compare preparation quotations on the same scope

For a preparation-only package, agree the required handover condition with the flooring installer before work starts. Ask whether the quotation includes coating removal, edge preparation, local repairs, waste removal and any moisture-control or levelling work. Preparation and an optional resin coating can be priced separately so the scope is clear.

Send the specification, floor area, postcode and photographs, including close-ups of damaged or contaminated areas. Include access restrictions, available power and the date the next trade needs the floor. Discuss a main contractor flooring package or request a preparation quotation.

Budget planning

Commercial floor preparation: guide costs

Use the individual service guides to budget for the work your floor needs. These are separate services; the rates should not automatically be added together.

See each guide for scope and sources. The 10 mm levelling range is a CCNW budget allowance; the other ranges are published UK market guides. Area, condition, removal work, repairs, access and minimum charges affect the total. Your written quotation confirms the complete scope and applicable VAT.

Planning your project: four useful questions

What affects the cost of commercial floor preparation?

Floor area, existing condition, specification, access and programme affect pricing. See the budget guide on this page for the indicative range and exclusions. The written quotation confirms scope and applicable VAT.

What preparation does the floor need?

The existing surface, coating, contamination, slab condition and next flooring system determine whether grinding, blasting, repairs or levelling is appropriate.

How long before the area can be used again?

Preparation, application and any curing are separate stages. The chosen products, temperature, thickness and intended traffic determine the programme. Preparation-only work is handed over to the agreed surface specification.

Is this service suitable for my premises?

We undertake preparation-only packages as well as complete preparation and flooring installations, subject to the agreed handover specification.

See our workshop preparation and resin flooring project for a real example. Your floor still needs its own assessment.
