Planning a Warehouse Floor Refurbishment
An operational warehouse needs a flooring plan that accounts for logistics, not just the coating application.
Important: This is general project-planning guidance. Final materials, preparation and working methods must follow the site conditions, product manufacturer instructions and applicable safety requirements.
Map the working zones
Identify forklift routes, turning circles, racking, loading bays, pedestrian routes and areas with existing defects. Record whether work can take place in phases or requires a complete shutdown.
Investigate the existing slab
Assess coatings, contamination, cracks, joints, moisture and surface strength. Defects can influence the preparation method and whether repairs or levelling are required.
Choose a suitable system
Consider traffic loading, abrasion, slip resistance, cleaning and chemical exposure. Epoxy, polyurethane and other resin systems vary; manufacturer specifications should determine suitability.
Plan the programme
Include segregation, equipment access, deliveries, ventilation, dust control, preparation, application, curing and reopening checks. Allow contingency for defects that become visible once the old finish is removed.
Protect business continuity
Coordinate with the warehouse manager and principal contractor. Agree pedestrian diversions, vehicle movements, stock protection and responsibility for each work zone.
