How to Specify Industrial Resin Flooring
A useful resin floor specification starts with what the building needs the floor to do, rather than choosing a product name first.
Important: This is general project-planning guidance. Final materials, preparation and working methods must follow the site conditions, product manufacturer instructions and applicable safety requirements.
Define the working environment
Record whether the floor serves a warehouse, production facility, vehicle depot or food processing area. Establish the likely traffic, impact, cleaning, chemical exposure, temperature and slip-risk requirements. Different zones may need different finishes.
Assess the substrate
Identify the slab type and condition, cracks, joints, previous coatings, contamination and any signs of moisture. A site inspection and appropriate tests may be necessary. Existing floor defects should be understood before a coating is specified.
Choose the system for the conditions
Epoxy, polyurethane screeds and MMA systems have different characteristics. Film thickness, curing, temperature limits and resistance claims are product-specific. Use the manufacturer’s technical data and a project-specific assessment rather than assuming one resin is suitable for every application.
Define the preparation standard
The required mechanical profile and substrate strength should be specified in line with the coating manufacturer. Shot blasting and diamond grinding may both be relevant, but each has different strengths and limitations. Repairs, levelling and moisture-control measures should be clearly scoped.
Agree operational constraints
Set out working hours, safe access, ventilation, dust controls, phasing, temperature and reopening criteria. Avoid promising a fixed return-to-service time without checking the selected product and site conditions.
Request a meaningful quotation
Send a floor plan, site postcode, approximate m², photographs, proposed programme and any performance specification. A clear brief helps identify exclusions and reduces the risk of changes later.
