Commercial Screeding Specification Checklist

Before specifying a levelling or pumped screed, establish the condition of the substrate and the requirements of the finished floor.

Important: This is general project-planning guidance. Final materials, preparation and working methods must follow the site conditions, product manufacturer instructions and applicable safety requirements.

Substrate and structural suitability

Confirm the floor construction, strength, movement, existing fixings where relevant, cracks and contamination. A screed cannot reliably compensate for an unstable substrate.

Moisture and priming

Assess moisture conditions and the compatibility of any primer, moisture-control system and screed. Follow the manufacturer’s installation and drying requirements.

Thickness and floor tolerance

Define the permitted minimum and maximum thickness, surface regularity, thresholds and transitions. The required tolerance should reflect the floor covering and use of the space.

Programme and access

Confirm pumping access, water and power requirements, temperature, ventilation, working areas and protection from following trades. Covering times depend on the product, conditions and required moisture criteria.

Handover information

Agree who checks substrate readiness, records product details, protects the screed and confirms the floor is suitable for the next trade.
